INQUEST ON SA WOMAN DEAD AFTER LIPOSUCTION

Lauren Edgar's last words before she died in hospital from complications after having liposuction were: "Mummy, I don't know what I am doing here."
Deputy South Australian coroner Anthony Schapel is investigating the death of the 28-year-old who died of multi-organ failure days after being operated on by cosmetic surgeon George Kerry in March 2008.
Ms Edgar's parents gave evidence on Monday that their daughter was in pain for days before going to hospital with a swollen leg and being diagnosed with gangrene.
Her mother, Leila Janine Edgar, cried as she recalled her daughter's last words.
"She said, `Mummy, I don't know why I am in so much pain. Mummy, when I asked Dr Kerry if there would be pain he said no. When I asked her if I could get an infection, she said no,'" Mrs Edgar said.
Mrs Edgar said she assumed "her" was the clinic's nurse.
Lauren's father Adrian John Edgar said his daughter told him she had complained of pain to Dr Kerry and been given a stronger dose of painkillers.
Her parents noticed Ms Edgar was pale, sluggish and groggy and her leg was swollen, but they thought that was normal.
"I could see her pain was worse, but that didn't seem to be unusual after liposuction," Mr Edgar said.
Ms Edgar, who was on a disability pension for chronic fatigue syndrome, had obtained a loan to pay for the surgery after her parents would not give her the money.
Mrs Edgar said her daughter, who had studied law and journalism, wished to return to tap dancing and wanted the "fat" gone.
Her parents tried to dissuade her, saying she was not overweight and assuring her exercise would fix her physique after her illness.
"She said she was doing it for herself, something to make her happy," Mr Edgar said.
The inquest continues.
