N.C. gunman kills 3 in workplace shooting, leaves note

uthorities in North Carolina say a gunman who shot and killed three people and injured a fourth in an early-morningworkplace shooting had specific victims in mind and did not choose them randomly, WFMY reports.
Update at 2:37 p.m. ET: Montgomery County Sheriff Dempsey Owens identifies the gunman as Ronald Dean Davis, 50.
Owens says Davis, who worked at the McBride Lumber Co., arrived at the warehouse in Star, N.C., around 6:15 a.m. armed with a 12-gauge shotgun and began shooting.
Three people were killed and a fourth, who identified the gunman to authorities, was injured, WFMY reports.
"I am under the impression that he knew who he went after," Owens says.
Davis was tracked to his home in Ether, N.C., where he was found with self-inflicted gunshot wounds and taken to a hospital.
Owens tells an afternoon news conference that Davis, who worked at the lumber warehouse, left a six-page note, but did not elaborate on its contents.
Update at 12:39 p.m. ET: The survivor identified the suspect, allowing deputies to track him to his house, WFMY reports.
They found the suspect with injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and dispatched him to the hospital for treatment.
Montgomery County Sheriff Dempsey Owens says authorities are treating the shooting as a case of workplace violence. He says the shooter left a note, but did not elaborate, WFMY reports.
"It's a very quiet community," Owens says. "Everybody knows everybody and I don't know what would send a man off the edge to go and do such a heinous act this morning."
Original post: WXII reports that the gunman was found by deputies later at his home. He was taken to a hospital after shooting himself, WXII says.
A sheriff's deputy is quoted as describing the gunman as a disgruntled employee at McBride Lumber company near Star, N.C.
The deputy says the gunman entered the lumber company warehouse around 6 a.m. and started shooting workers.
